ARCA West shocker as Portland race ends in unbelievable finish

The ARCA Menard’s West Series joined IndyCar this weekend at Portland International Raceway, and they delivered a truly wild finish on FloRacing.

At the very end of the race, Sam Corry was leading Ethan Tovo. As they battled down into the Turn 1 chicane, Tovo put the bumper to Corry as they battled for the race win. Corry then pushed Tovo into the dirt to maintain the lead.

At Turn 5, Tovo tried to move Corry again, and both cars ended up off the track and in the dirt. Suddenly, Kyle Steckly was leading the race with Mason Massey in second. Massey pursued Steckly for the rest of the lap, but it looked like the Canadian driver was going to claim victory.

But to the shock of all those watching, Steckly overdrove the final corner and slid off into the dirt. Corry and Tovo, who were running third and fourth after their run-in, also went completely off the race track.

Massey in second stayed calm as chaos unfolded both in front of him and right behind him, passing Steckly as they entered the frontstretch to take the checkered flag for himself.

Steckly finished a bitter second, and Hailie Deegan jumped up into third right at the very end. Tovo managed to hang on to fourth despite two offs on the final lap, and Eric Johnson Jr. rounded out the top five. Corry, who was leading at the white flag, finished 15th.

It was a jaw-dropping finish and helped to bring Massey back into the championship discussion. That was Massey’s second win of the 2026 season, also winning the opener at Kern Raceway.

The primary ARCA division is in Iowa this weekend, with Tristan McKee winning that race on Friday…just days after his 16th birthday.
