At the same time, some unverified claims and speculations from online commentator, Jonathan Lee Riches, added fuel to the fire. He alleged on X that Annie and Tommaso had asked Nancy for money before she disappeared. Also, she had turned down their request for it. However, there is no public evidence to support these claims. Pima County Sheriff cleared Annie Guthrie and Tommaso Cioni’s roles in the case
Pima County Sheriff, Chris Nanos, who is investigating the case with the FBI, reportedly cleared all Guthrie family members of any involvement. It also included Annie Guthrie and Tommaso Cioni. He himself issued an official statement in February 2026 clarifying that all siblings and spouses were ruled out as suspects. Meanwhile, the FBI, which is working with local investigators, supported the stance. Savannah Guthrie has also defended her family.
