Hyderabad: The opening day of Round-4 in the Hyderabad Cricket Association’s ‘A’ Division league was highlighted by three superb centuries and a series of devastating bowling spells that kept the balance between bat and ball.
Cambridge XI posted the day’s highest total of 386, powered by Arhaan Satwalekar’s magnificent 161, while MP Colts and Charminar also enjoyed productive outings through unbeaten and match-defining centuries from Mickil Jaiswal and Bhavesh Seth respectively.
Arhaan compiled a superb 161 off 219 balls, striking 19 fours and a six as Cambridge amassed 386 in 88.4 overs against Central Excise. Shashank Lokesh contributed 94 while Aashlesh Vaman added 45. Dhanush Karri was the pick of the bowlers with 4/76.
In another match, Mickil remained unbeaten on 124 from just 116 deliveries, hitting 16 boundaries and a six, to steer MP Colts to a commanding 344/4 in 71.5 overs against R. Dayanand.
Bowlers, however, ensured the day was far from one-sided. Tanay Thyagarajann and Ronald Roy Rodrigues claimed six-wicket hauls, while Rishab Baslas and Yashveer Goud registered impressive five-fors. Several matches were left delicately poised after the first day’s play, with a number of teams already establishing commanding advantages through either imposing first-innings totals or disciplined bowling efforts.
Among the unfinished contests, Cambridge XI, MP Colts and Charminar seized early control through dominant batting displays, while Combined District-1, Sporting XI and Jai Hanuman tightened their grip courtesy of outstanding bowling performances.
The ‘B’ Division witnessed another eventful day dominated by substantial individual performances. Anirudh Srivathsan produced the innings of the round with a commanding 153 for Hyderabad Wanderers while Syed Hidayath Hussain (104) added another century for MP Blues.
Bowlers also enjoyed considerable success, with two incisive five-wicket spells and a devastating 5/11 from A. Laxman of Warangal leaving batting line-ups under severe pressure.
Several teams established commanding first-innings positions, while a number of chases were completed with remarkable ease.
