Ariana Grande has confirmed the release date of her eighth studio record, Petal, and confirmed that the album will be released later this summer amidst her Eternal Sunshine tour
Ariana Grande has confirmed she will drop her eighth studio album this summer. The 32-year-old shared the announcement on Tuesday, posting a photo of the cover art – a picture of the singer beaming – alongside its title, Petal.
The forthcoming 12-track album arrives on July 31 and follows just over a year after she dropped Eternal Sunshine Deluxe: Brighter Days Ahead.
The announcement arrives ahead of the singer’s The Eternal Sunshine tour, kicking off in June with gigs in Los Angeles, New York, Boston, Chicago, and Montreal, before concluding with 10 nights at London’s O2 Arena in August and September.
Ariana described Petal as: “Something that is full of life and growing through the cracks of something cold and hard and challenging.” Since the news of her record emerged online, her upload, which has been liked almost 2 million times, was flooded with celebratory messages.
“This is gonna be so special,” gushed one fan. A second added: “My Godness!! I’m so ready!” Another fan typed: “I keep coming back to this post every 8 minutes because I just don’t believe it’s real.”
The singer teased the news of her record earlier this month, confirming she was back in the recording studio. In the snaps, Ariana is seen sitting at a soundboard and setting up behind a microphone in what appears to be Swedish producer and songwriter Max Martin’s studio.
The Mirror understood that it was an “exciting time” for Ariana ahead of the release of her record. Meanwhile, a source told TMZ that Ariana was “super excited” about the release. But while Ariana is currently gearing up for the release and her upcoming tour, she confirmed that she will be taking a step back.
Speaking to Amy Poehler on the Good Hang podcast, Ariana said: “I’m very excited to do this small tour. But I think it might not happen again for a long, long, long, long time.
“I’m going to give it my all, and it’s going to be beautiful, and I’m so grateful. I think that’s why I’m doing it. Because I’m like, one last hurrah. For now.” Ariana explained that she had become consumed by life as a pop star.
“That’s something that is learned over time,” she said, adding: “For me, when I came into all of this, and my pop career sort of took over my life in a way, I didn’t have that at all.
“I just am feeling a lot more connected to myself and my art since I started doing different things. I spent so much time only doing pop music, but I grew up as a girl who loved musical theatre and comedy, so I think the thing that will be best for my soul and for my art is chasing things that feel very right in the moment, even if it’s spontaneous and something different.”
Details about the record remain scarce, though it arrives after the singer’s major film debut in the cinematic adaptation of the musical Wicked alongside Cynthia Erivo and Jonathan Bailey.
Grande portrayed Glinda in the box office smash, which was divided into two instalments, and earned her maiden Oscar nod in the best supporting actress category.
The Grammy-winning pop sensation shot to stardom after appearing in the popular Nickelodeon series Victorious and its spin-off, Sam and Cat. She subsequently transitioned into music, with her career exploding in 2013 after dropping her first album, Yours Truly.
Grande has since scored seven UK number one singles, including chart-toppers 7 Rings, Thank U, Next, and Positions, alongside five UK number one albums – including her 2024 release Eternal Sunshine. She also features in Focker-In-Law, the forthcoming fourth film in the Meet The Parents franchise, which chronicles the misadventures of Greg Focker (Ben Stiller) as he attempts to impress his father-in-law, retired CIA operative Jack Byrnes (Robert De Niro).
The movie, scheduled for release in November, represents the franchise’s comeback after a 16-year absence.
