Srinagar : Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi visited the Northern Command headquarters in Jammu and Kashmir’s garrison town of Udhampur where he conducted a comprehensive review of operational preparedness, capability development and ongoing modernisation initiatives. The visit underscored the Army’s continued emphasis on strengthening readiness in one of the country’s most strategically significant theatres, officials said.

During the visit on Tuesday, the Army chief was briefed on the conduct of multi-domain operations, technology absorption, infrastructure development and integrated combat readiness across the full spectrum of military operations. The review highlighted the Army’s effort to align conventional preparedness with rapidly evolving operational requirements and technology-driven warfare concepts, a defence spokesperson said.

Interacting with officers of the Northern Command and various formation headquarters through a hybrid format, General Dwivedi stressed the need to harness emerging technologies and foster innovation to enhance operational effectiveness in an increasingly dynamic security environment, the spokesperson said, adding that the Army Chief underlined that future readiness will depend not only on force posture and training, but also on the ability to adapt swiftly to new-age operational challenges.

He also reviewed measures aimed at strengthening operational capabilities and ensuring readiness to meet evolving security challenges. Commending officers and soldiers across all ranks for their professionalism, commitment and operational excellence, the Army Chief praised their sustained efforts in maintaining a high state of combat readiness under demanding conditions.

The visit forms part of the Army’s broader push towards transformation, networking and data-centric warfare capabilities to enhance operational effectiveness and preparedness. Recent reviews of other operational commands indicate that the leadership is placing sustained focus on modernisation, agility, technology integration and mission readiness across theatres.

In another highlight of the visit, General Dwivedi felicitated several retired personnel in Udhampur for their outstanding contributions to nation-building, social welfare and community empowerment. The veterans were recognised for sustained work in support of ex-servicemen, Veer Naris, local communities and youth through mentorship, educational support, rehabilitation initiatives, pension assistance and grassroots development efforts. Their service after retirement was presented as a model of continued commitment to society and the nation.

“Their contributions also include providing critical support during Operation SINDOOR, facilitating counter-terrorism efforts through valuable intelligence inputs and displaying exemplary courage during rescue & relief operations during natural calamities,” the Army wrote on ‘X’.
