The Indian Army’s top commanders began a three-day conference in New Delhi on Wednesday to review the evolving security situation, operational preparedness, capability development and modernisation initiatives, with defence minister Rajnath Singh scheduled to release a new Land Warfare Doctrine on Friday.
The doctrine will take into account the changing nature of warfare, particularly the growing use of drones, artificial intelligence and other advanced technologies in military operations.
“The doctrine will provide an overarching framework to prepare the Indian Army to meet the challenges posed by the evolving character of warfare and future conflicts,” the defence ministry said.
The Army Commanders’ Conference, the Army’s apex biannual forum, is being held from October 21 to 23 under the chairmanship of Army Chief General Dhiraj Seth.
The Chief of Defence Staff, Chief of the Naval Staff and secretary (electronics and information technology), ministry of electronics and information technology, will address the conference on contemporary security challenges.
Singh will also unveil the annual United Nations Journal and felicitate Army personnel who have made notable contributions while serving as UN peacekeepers, recognising their professionalism and service towards international peace and security.
General Seth will present awards for Green Military Stations and Aviation Flight Safety, recognising excellence in environmental sustainability, resource management and aviation safety.
“With its comprehensive agenda, the conference will provide an important forum for the senior leadership of the Indian Army to review ongoing initiatives, identify future thrust areas and formulate appropriate policy directions towards building a progressive, adaptive, technologically enabled and future-ready Indian Army,” the defence ministry said.
