Premier League champions Arsenal moved level on points with rivals Manchester City at the top of the table following a 2-0 win over Everton at the Emirates.
Ezri Konsa and Gabriel Magalhaes scored the goals after City had earlier suffered their first league defeat of the season against Aston Villa.
The results leave both Arsenal and City on 21 points after eight games, while defeat for Everton means David Moyes’s side fall to ninth.
Gunners get the job done
The Gunners broke the deadlock after seven minutes, Konsa netting his first goal in an Arsenal shirt after bundling home following a goalmouth scramble.
Going behind appeared to jolt Everton into life. Tyrique George went close when he flashed a shot just wide of the far post, before Gabriel was forced to hack the ball off the line after David Raya failed to deal with a corner.
At the other end, Jake O’Brien produced a vital block to prevent Mikel Merino from doubling the hosts’ advantage before Noni Madueke fired into the side netting.
Konsa’s goal was the only thing separating the two sides at the break. The game continued in much the same fashion after the restart – the contest threatening to become a scrappy, tetchy affair.
That was until the 68th minute when, having looked like he was struggling with an injury minutes before, Gabriel popped up to head in White’s cross to give Arsenal a second on what was the Brazilian defender’s 200th Premier League appearance.
From there, it felt all but over as a contest. Everton’s best chance fell to Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall but his glancing header from James Garner’s delivery flew the wrong side of the post.
In the end, the Toffees failed to make Arsenal come unstuck as Arteta’s men saw out the contest to draw level on points with rivals Manchester City.
