Hyderabad: Union minister of state for home affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar has accused the state government of betraying farmers’ trust amid paddy procurement troubles. He said farmers were enduring scorching heat at procurement centres, denied fair prices due to moisture deductions despite promises of dry paddy purchases without penalties.

In a letter to Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, Sanjay questioned unfulfilled bonus pledges for the last Rabi season and warned of repetition this year. He alleged denial of MSP for paddy while ignoring Centre’s procurement of maize, leaving many farmers vulnerable to middlemen.

He criticised inadequate relief for crop losses across more than five lakh acres due to untimely rains, stating that only Rs 260 crore was disbursed against Rs 5,000 crore due at Rs 10,000 per acre. He further claimed the Civil Supplies Corporation’s debt had ballooned to Rs 1 lakh crore under Congress rule, compared with Rs 56,000 crore under BRS.

Demanding immediate action, the minister warned of massive protests if promises such as the Warangal Declaration and summer action plans were ignored amid drought conditions.
