Hyderabad: Germany-based BASF, one of the world’s largest chemical companies, has signed a letter of intent with the Telangana government to establish a global service hub and a global digital hub in Hyderabad. Operated under BASF Global Business Services Private Limited. The two hubs will operate as separate legal entities and are slated to begin operations in the second quarter of 2026 and will collectively employ 3,000 skilled professionals in phases

The Letter of Intent (LoI) was handed over to IT minister Duddilla Sridhar Babu by Sarvesh Singh, CEO, Telangana Life Sciences, and Tobias Dratt, president, global business services at BASF.

Sridhar Babu said Hyderabad had emerged as one of India’s fastest-growing destinations for Global Capability Centres (GCCs), adding over 75 in the past year alone. He announced a target of 100 new GCCs and over one lakh jobs this year, citing flagship initiatives including AIKAM, Young India Skills University, a proposed 200-acre AI City, Quantum Hub, and 1BioLab. “Hyderabad is moving decisively from incubation to innovation,” he said.

Founded more than 160 years ago, BASF operates in 200 countries with 234 manufacturing facilities and 1,08,000 employees worldwide, generating annual revenues of about $60 billion. After a competitive evaluation across multiple geographies, Hyderabad was chosen as the site for the new hubs, which will support global operations in finance, HR, supply chain, regulatory services, and in-house consulting, complementing BASF’s hubs in Berlin, Kuala Lumpur, and Montevideo.

Tobias Dratt said Hyderabad offered the right ecosystem and talent base for scalable, high-quality services. Alexander Gerding, managing director of BASF India Limited, described the investment as a defining milestone in BASF’s India journey.

With this, Hyderabad joins the ranks of global majors including NVIDIA, Microsoft, Google, Vanguard, Eli Lilly, Marriott International, and The Hartford, reinforcing its position as a preferred destination for complex, high-value operations and a source of opportunity for local talent.
