BBC Look North presenter has hit back at viewer criticism about her on-screen outfits after receiving a handwritten letter complaining her dresses were too short for her age

A BBC News presenter has opened up about being cruelly shamed by viewers over her choice of on-screen outfits. Amy Garcia, 45, who fronts the BBC’s Look North programme, revealed that one particularly harsh critic even went to the trouble of sending a “handwritten letter” about her “short dresses”.

The Yorkshire-based mum-of-two hit back via Instagram, posting a radiant snap of herself perched on the studio sofa, dressed in a striking blue and red patterned frock, paired with nude heels and a beaming smile, ready to go on air.

Her caption pulled no punches as she addressed the criticism head-on, writing: “I recently received a handwritten letter telling me that my dresses were far too short for my age and why was I dressing like a 17-year-old? This outfit is for Margaret, I hope she approves”.

Her followers were quick to rally behind her, with one fan writing: “Love that dress Amy ignore ! Where is it from?!” Another chimed in with: “She sounds a very rude person Amy… Take no notice and carry on being who you are.”

A third quipped: “You always look beautiful Amy. Oh Margaret, Margaret, Margaret you clearly need a hobby to occupy your time rather than insult the lovely Amy”. A fourth added: “You always dress lovely and look wonderful, wished I had the confidence and your figure xx”.

Amy has been the lead anchor on Look North since 2020, having previously worked on CBBC, CITV and The Disney Channel. The broadcaster has previously presented 60 Seconds on BBC Three and BBC South Today.

In related news, another BBC presenter hit back at online critics who labelled her “cheap and trashy” for her on-air outfit choice of leather trousers and high heels.

Amy’s Look North colleague Amanda Harper, 52, donned maroon leather trousers, sky-high heels, and a sparkly shirt while delivering a bulletin earlier this week – however, some viewers weren’t having it.

In a more positive light, viewers were also distracted by another type of appearance too. Today, BBC viewers said the same thing about Princess Catherine’s appearance minutes into Trooping the Colour.

During the spectacle, Royal Family members made their way in horse-drawn carriages, while the King travelled accompanied by a Sovereign’s Escort and Household Cavalry. As the parade commenced, BBC viewers’ focus was drawn to Princess Catherine, who sat in a carriage alongside her children, Princess Charlotte, Prince George and Prince Louis.

The 44-year-old Princess of Wales appeared radiant, wearing a pale blue dress featuring white piping and an eye-catching, oversized hat. Her dark hair was styled in an elegant bun, and she completed the look with pearl floral-burst earrings.

Flocking to X to share their thoughts on her appearance, one viewer posted: “HRH The Princess of Wales looks divine.”

Another commented, “I can never get enough of this beauty. Wow. I’m stunned,” the Express reports. A third wrote: “We already have Kate Middleton and her children. As always, stunning at the #TroopingtheColour.” Someone else shared: “Catherine is the Lioness of Windsor.” Meanwhile, a fifth observed: “Our Princess Catherine in pale blue. Stunning.”

Others noticed that her ensemble for the royal occasion bore a remarkable resemblance to the outfit Princess Diana wore in 1987. During the ceremonial proceedings, the King guided his guards back along The Mall towards Buckingham Palace, while a 41-gun salute will sound across Green Park.

The Royal Family then assembled on the Buckingham Palace balcony to acknowledge the assembled crowds and observe a Royal Air Force flypast.
