Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams has fully embraced the “Iceman” nickname that was bestowed upon him midway through the 2025 season. From his chilly celebration following game-winning touchdowns to even attempting to trademark the nickname legally, the young signal caller is leaning all the way into the moniker entering Year 3. But where did the nickname actually come from? Williams finally revealed who first started calling him “Iceman.”
In a conversation with Jason and Travis Kelce on the “New Heights” podcast this week, Williams dove into numerous topics about growing up, last season, Ben Johnson, his tight ends, and much more. Eventually, Jason asked Williams about the “Iceman” nickname and where it came from. Though Williams wasn’t 100% certain, he believes it came from a now-ex teammate. “I think it was DJ Moore,” Williams said. “DJ gave it to me and then the boys just ran off with it.”
His teammates indeed embraced the nickname, particularly during the team’s Week 10 24-20 comeback win over the New York Giants. After Williams scored the go-ahead touchdown with his legs, his teammates were pumping him up on the sideline, shouting “Ice” and “Iceman” as he took high fives. From there, the rest is history.

The revelation adds to Moore’s legacy in Chicago, who was traded to the Buffalo Bills in exchange for a second-round pick. And it officially squashes any rumors that Williams gave the nickname to himself. If Williams and the Bears continue to ascend following their 11-6 campaign last year, we’ll be hearing more and more about the “Iceman” this fall.
