It’s claimed the only family Brooklyn Beckham has only kept in touch with is his grandparents by text message as David and Victoria cling on to hope of a pre World Cup reconciliation
The Beckhams are “struggling to accept” that son Brooklyn’s freeze-out has now lasted for an entire year.
It comes amid claims David is determined to at least meet with his eldest child before the World Cup in June in an attempt to boost chance of a reconciliation. The family were left reeling after Brooklyn’s scathing six page statement in which he said he had no wish to patch things up with his parents.
David and Victoria have offered to meet their son on his terms several times and are “desperate” to repair their relationship as the parents are said to be trying to heal the rift between them. But with it being a year since he started to cut ties, they will “never give up hope” of reuniting with their boy.
The publication state that Brooklyn has only kept in touch, via text, with his grandparents as the divide grows. Last week, the Beckhams put on a united front as Victoria was supported by her family at the launch of her new GAP range. David, daughter Harper, 14, son Cruz, 21, and his girlfriend Jackie Apost, 30, flew to New York to make sure they were there for her even though Brooklyn, as expected, was nowhere to be seen.
“Everything’s going really well, but Brooklyn’s not there,” a source told Page Six, before adding that the family will “never give up hope” of reuniting with their son. Adding that they were “saddened” the situation has lasted this long, they added that “everything is frozen in place” with doubts cast then relations will be repaired in time for the World Cup when the entire family are expected to be in the States.
In January, Brooklyn ended months of speculation about the fractured relationship with his parents by posting a scathing statement to Instagram. In it, he accused his parents of trying to destroy his relationship with his wife and using their family to promote ‘Brand Beckham‘ at the expense of genuine connection. The power couple’s eldest son hasn’t spoken – or acknowledged – his parents since.
He claimed the latter left him with anxiety as child. He also stated that he had no wish to improve his relationship with his family. This came after reports circulated that he had instructed his parents to stop contacting him, including via tags on social media, and send any communication through his lawyers instead.
The Cut, part of New York magazine, last week reported that the Beckhams did try to do as he said and get in contact via lawyers. The publication reported that the parents have tried to reach Brooklyn in any way he desired – “with lawyers, the Peltz parents, siblings, a therapist, a mediator” and that they are “desperate to repair the relationship”. The Mirror approached the Beckhams for comment.
During an appearance on Today with Jenna & Sheinelle, former Spice Girl Victoria shared a telling statement. Talking to the hosts, she said: “We always put our children first. We love our children so much and have always really focused on protecting our children, but we laugh a lot. David Beckham is really, super funny.”
Speaking of dealing with tough times as a group, Victoria went on: “You know, myself and David, we’re so close and we have incredible people around us. We’re close to my parents and David’s parents. We support each other through everything that we do. We’ve grown together. And that’s where I feel so blessed.
“We really have grown together. We support each other. We’ve both got big dreams. We’re both very, very ambitious and we support each other. I want him to be the best version of himself and that’s what he wants for me.”
In a blunt comment, Victoria revealed she is less interested in what people think of her as she gets older. “You genuinely care less about what people think,” she said.
“You accept who you are, you embrace who you are. You make the best of what you’ve got. You look in the mirror and you go, ‘OK,’ you look at what’s OK versus focusing on what you don’t like.”
In his outburst, Brooklyn took aim at his mum’s actions. His savage retort read: “”I do not want to reconcile with my family. I’m not being controlled, I’m standing up for myself for the first time in my life.
“For my entire life, my parents have controlled narratives in the press about our family. The performative social media posts, family events and inauthentic relationships have been a fixture of the life I was born into.”
