Hyderabad:Senior BRS leader T. Harish Rao on Wednesday warned of protests at the Siddipet Collectorate and blocking of highways in the district if the government does not step up crop procurement in the district.
Speaking after visiting the Narayanaraopet paddy procurement centre and speaking with farmers who brought their produce there, Harish Rao said Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy “who claims to be the son of a farmer, should get out of his Jubilee Hills palace and start visiting procurement centres to see the woes faced by farmers.”
Farmers not just here, but across the state, have been bringing their produce, be it paddy, maize, sunflower, and other crops for the last 20 days but there is no one to purchase the produce. “If procurement does not begin in the next three to four days, then protests will be organised to force the government to begin the purchases,” he said.
While the Chief Minster does not care, the civil supplies minister Uttam Kumar Reddy has no understanding of procurement issues. No minister in any district has visited the procurement centres to see what is happening. Farmers are waiting in hot sun under 44 or 45 degrees heat but the government does not appear to care,” he said.
