Prince Harry appears to be in his element in new behind-the-scenes pictures from his latest trip to the UK.
Earlier this month The Duke of Sussex spent five days in the UK to attend a major event in Birmingham marking the official one year countdown to next year’s Games, where he met with officials and veterans.
King Charles was reportedly challenged ‘beyond endurance’ when back and forth bickering broke out between Prince Harry and Buckingham Palace over his accommodation offer.
Hours before the Duke of Sussex arrived in his home country, a series of statements were released from the Sussex camp and the Palace, after Harry claimed he had accepted the monarch’s offer to stay in the London residence. However, within a matter of minutes, the Palace issued a statement of their own saying that the accommodation offer had been withdrawn as it was no longer feasible for Harry to stay.
More statements from both Harry and the Palace were then issued, each of them defending their position in the royal accommodation row. In the end, it was revealed that during his few days in London, the Duke would be staying in private accommodation.
In new pictures, shared online by photographer David Levene, who accompanied the duke and the Invictus Games for the trip, Harry can be seen beaming from ear to ear as he engaged with veterans, dignitaries and hospital and rehabilitation centre staff.
Mr Levene said on his post on Instagram: “Here’s a roundup of my week working with @weareinvictusgames earlier this month during a visit to the UK by the Duke of Sussex, marking one year to go until the Invictus Games Birmingham 2027 @birmingham_2027.
“Following a trip to Ukraine together last year, it was great to work alongside Prince Harry again, as he toured the country and met with former competitors, veterans, dignitaries, and hospital and rehabilitation centre staff.
“He also had a guest appearance on the Joe Marler podcast, before taking part in a One-year-to-go event at the NEC centre in Birmingham, where he tested his skills at Pickleball, Laser Run and Wheelchair Rugby.”
Now, Harry has shared the exciting news that Daejeon, South Korea, will host the 2029 Games, announcing that he is ‘delighted’ for them to stage the sporting competition. The announcement means the event will be brought to Asia for the very first time.
As founder of the Invictus Games, Harry made the announcement on Monday, as he said in a statement: “We are delighted to announce Daejeon, South Korea as the host of the 2029 Invictus Games and, on behalf of the Invictus Games Foundation, we are so excited to work together.
“As the first Asian nation selected to host the Games, the Republic of Korea represents an exciting new chapter in our journey to ensure that more wounded, injured and sick service personnel and veterans can benefit from the power of sport and the strength of the Invictus community.”
The games will take place from October 6–15, 2029 in and around the Daejeon Convention Centre in Yuseong-gu. It will bring together 550 competitors from 26 nations, supported by 1,100 family members and friends in 12 sports.
