New Hibernian boss Marink Reedijk endured a disappointing debut as his side suffered a 1-0 defeat against Dundee United at Tannadice.
The hosts scored the only goal of the game in the first half through on-loan QPR winger Daniel Bennie to secure the Terrors a first home league win of the season as the visitors finished the game with 10 men after sub Jacob Devaney was sent off.
The result moves United up to fifth in the Premiership table while Hibs remain in 10th place.
Hibs had the first opportunity of the game in the ninth minute when the ball was played to Felix Passlack with the defender finding Josh Mulligan but the midfielder’s shot was blocked.
United responded with Lyall Cameron playing in Jesse Randall but his shot was straight at Hibs goalie Raphael Sallinger who stood tall to block.
The same two home players combined well again in the 23rd minute and this time Sallinger had to produce a stunning stop to send Randall’s shot over the bar.
The Terrors were well on top and should have opened the scoring when Bennie was presented with a great chance inside the box but he sent his curling effort over the bar.
Bennie, though, made no mistake in the 35th minute when Cameron dinked a cross to him and he bundled home from close range.
After the break, Sallinger had to rescue Hibs once more to keep out a low Randall shot but the visitors broke straight up the park through sub Rabbi Matondo, with Bert Esselink having to make a vital interception.
United thought they had been awarded a penalty in the 80th minute when Neil Farrugia tumbled after a push by Hibs sub Devaney.
Referee Don Robertson initially pointed to the spot and booked Devaney but, after being called to the monitor by the VAR, he decided the challenge was outside the box and instead gave a free-kick and then brandished a red card at Devaney for a last-man challenge.
Hibs came close to drawing the game in added time but United keeper Jack Walton made a great stop low down from a Boyle shot.
