Brian Austin Green has gone from teen heartthrob on Beverly Hills, 90210, to dad of five, navigating a very public divorce along the way – we look back at his life in the spotlight

It’s been more than 26 years since we said goodbye to the teens from one of the 1990s most popular TV shows, Beverly Hills, 90210. The series ended on 17 May in the year 2000, having made household names of stars including Jason Priestley as Brandon Walsh, Shannen Doherty as his sister Brenda, Luke Perry as Dylan McKay, Tori Spelling as Donna Martin and Brian Austin Green as her boyfriend, David Silver.

Incredibly, it ran for 10 years, initially centring on the culture shock that twins Brandon (Priestly) and Brenda (Doherty) experienced when their parents moved from Minneapolis to Beverly Hills. But it went on to chronicle their friendships and relationships and tackled heavy topics including sex, date rape, homophobia, alcoholism, drug abuse, teen pregnancy and suicide and AIDS.

Brian appeared in all 10 series, facing some of these intense storylines himself, and maturing from a gawky freshman into one of the main characters in the friendship group.

When Beverly Hills, 90210, came to its conclusion with Donna and David’s wedding, some of its stars seemingly struggled to escape the days in the Peach Pit. But Brian continued to carve out a successful career in front of the cameras, fighting cyborgs in Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles and also appearing in a recurring role in Desperate Housewives as a love interest for Bree Hodge. There was even a reboot of 90210 in 2019.

His love life was sadly less straightforward. In 2004, Brian met Megan Fox on the set of US sitcom, Hope & Faith when he was 30 and she was 18. Remembering their first interaction together, Megan told New York Times: ““Everyone was around the monitor watching a scene, and Brian accidentally touched my leg. I remember literal electricity shooting through me and out me from every direction. I liked him right away. It was like magic.”

Megan was said to be persistent in convincing Brian she was ready for a serious relationship and just two years later the couple were engaged.

They called off their engagement in 2009, with Megan saying marriage wasn’t a realistic goal for a 23 year old, but they then married in a private ceremony just a year later. Many relationship ups and downs followed, with Megan filing for divorce in 2015, only for the pair to call it off when she was pregnant with their third child. They finally split in 2020, citing irreconcilable differences, and nearly a year later the estranged couple submitted their divorce judgement.

In 2019, Brian said of their relationship: “Neither one of us did anything to each other. She’s always been honest with me and I’ve always been honest with her. And I know she will always love me and I know as far as a family, what we have built is really cool and really special. So we decided let’s make sure we don’t lose that. That no matter what we’re always friends with each other and we’re a united front with the kids.”

Megan went on to couple up with Machine Gun Kelly and Brian, now 53, found happiness with Dancing With The Stars pro, Sharna Burgess. He had a vasectomy in 2022 after five children – a son with Vanessa Marcil, three more boys with Megan and another little one with Sharna.
