A man was questioned by Bilaspur Police after he was allegedly found performing a tantric ritual at a cremation ground using a photograph of Chhattisgarh High Court Chief Justice Ramesh Sinha, in an alleged attempt to secure bail for a relative arrested in a stabbing case.
The incident took place at a cremation ground in Devri village under the Sipat police station area on late Friday night. According to police. villagers noticed four men performing suspicious activities and confronted them. While three managed to flee, one man, identified as Rishikesh Kumar, was caught and handed over to the police.
Police recovered ritual materials, including a fish, lemons, vermilion and photographs of Chief Justice Ramesh Sinha and two other people. One of the photographs was reportedly of Priyanshu Bole, the relative for whom the ritual was allegedly being performed, while another belonged to the victim in the stabbing case.
During questioning, Kumar allegedly told police that Bole had been arrested along with others in the stabbing case and that while one accused had secured bail, the bail pleas of the remaining accused were pending.
According to reports, Kumar and his associates allegedly decided to perform the ritual after watching a video in which a tantrik claimed that such a ceremony could help secure bail. Police are investigating the incident and efforts are underway to identify and trace the other three men.
