Billie Eilish is celebrating the cinema release of her tour film, ‘Billie Eilish: Hit Me Hard and Soft – The Tour Live in 3D’, but did you know her mum was once a star of the screen too?

The career of Billie Eilish might be going from strength to strength, but it appears many of her fans weren’t aware of her mum’s own time in the limelight more than a quarter of a century ago.

Billie, 24, rose to fame in 2019 following the release of debut album, When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? which was co-written and produced by her older brother, Finneas. The duo,l from Los Angeles, California, have gone on to write several chart-topping records since, culminating in the sold-out Hit Me Hard and Soft: The Tour world tour in 2024 and 2025.

It was during those shows – in Manchester specifically – that footage was recorded for the production of Billie Eilish: Hit Me Hard and Soft – The Tour Live in 3D, which is released tomorrow (May 8). And it seems the singing sensation was destined for the big screen because her mum has also worked in front of the camera.

In 1999, Billie and Finneas’ mum Maggie Baird appeared in Friends as ‘Casting Director #2’ in episode four of season six, titled ‘The One Where Joey Loses His Insurance’.

Maggie’s scene sees her interact with Joey [Tribbiani, played by Matt LeBlanc] during his unsuccessful audition for a Purina dog food television advert.

“As a fan of Friends and Billie Eilish this makes me so happy,” declared TikTok user, Didi Green who posted a clip of the episode.

Writing in response, one stunned viewer confessed: “Watched Friends like 9,765,438 times and had no idea at all.”

A second person added: “My jaw dropped when I saw her! 2 of the things I love most in the world! How did I not notice? (PS, she’s so beautiful, just like Billie).”

A third asked: “How am I just finding this out?” While a fourth TikTok user declared: “Omg my favourite TV show and I’ve never noticed that!”

In fact, Maggie boasts an extensive television and film CV, albeit largely performing in minor roles. Her first role was as Rhonda Sadowski in the 1981 US soap, Another World.

Following Friends, she would go on to feature in several more hit shows, including The X-Files, The West Wing, Charmed and Bones.

Over on the big screen, she made her cinematic debut in the 1989 crime drama thriller, An Innocent Man, in the role of Stacy.

Appearances in White Dwarf (1995), Michael Jordan: An American Hero (1999) and Running Mates (2000) followed.

And Maggie also wrote, co-produced, acted and even provided the soundtrack for the film, Life Inside Out, which was released in 2013.
