Former Made In Chelsea star, Binky Felstead, hit the headlines last month when someone from her team asked a luxury baker for a freebie in exchange for a social media post

Reality star, Binky Felstead, has lifted the lid on what she calls “CakeGate” after being threatened with her life. The former Made In Chelsea alum, 35, hit the headlines last month when someone from her team asked a luxury baker for a freebie in exchange for a social media post.

After the email request was shared publicly, some were outraged by Binky, with the mum-of-three accused of using “clout for currency” as well as being sent death threats.

Meanwhile, others were so annoyed with the reality star that they contacted Marks and Spencer, who she has worked with for three years – demanding that she be sacked.

Now, the Made In Chelsea alum has broken her silence, admitting that ‘cakegate wasn’t on her bingo card for 2026’. Claiming that the whole experience had really “shaken” her, she told The Sun: “It’s been genuinely frightening at times. I’ve seen a very dark side of social media as a whole, and I wouldn’t wish that on anyone.”

Explaining that her PR reps had reached out to posh bakery, Anges De Sucre, ahead of her son Wilder’s birthday to see if they’d be interested in a “gifting collaboration”, which Binky says is “fairly standard in this industry”, the reality star said she was shocked by what happened next.

Not only was the email request shared publicly, but other businesses came forward to criticise Binky for asking for freebies – including Funfetti, the baker who made her wedding cake in return for magazine coverage and social post, but claims to have been ditched by the star.

“In terms of the initial enquiry [to Anges De Sucre], I don’t regret it in the sense that it was an offer, not an expectation. The business had every right to privately decline, which they did, and I respected that,” Binky explained.

However, admitting that she didn’t completely fulfil her promise to Funfetti, she added: “Although I got her included in Hello!, I didn’t fully deliver on the social media agreement, and there’s no excuse for it.”

Binky says as soon as she was made aware of the situation, she got her team to contact Funfetti and arrange payment for her wedding cake.

While Binky is now trying to move on from the ordeal, accepting that while “gifting collaborations” can be useful for some companies, others can’t fulfill them financially, a source said to be close to the star claimed the saga had taken its toll.

Speaking to Closer magazine, they said: “She didn’t expect it to turn into such a talking point. She’s feeling so exposed, like something that felt normal within her world has suddenly been picked apart publicly.

“She’s losing work over this. A lot of brands have been turned off and it’s really knocked her.”
