In the organizational reshuffle, effected in BJP by its national president Nitin Naveen on Wednesday, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh were given new in-charges of party affairs ahead of the 2028 Assembly polls.
While former Tripura chief minister Biplab Dev has been appointed in-charge of party affairs in Madhya Pradesh, flamboyant leader and former Union minister Smriti Irani has been made in-charge of party affairs in Chhattisgarh.
Both the states are ruled by the BJP.
Mr. Dev replaces Dr. Mahendra Singh in the post.
Senior BJP leader Rekha Verma has been made co-in-charge of party affairs in MP.
The post of in-charge of Chhattisgarh unit of BJP remained vacant after Mr. Naveen became the BJP national president.
Ms. Irani will also hold the office of in-charge of party affairs in Haryana.
Party’s national secretary Siddharth Sambhu has been appointed co-in-charge of party affairs in Chhattisgarh.
Assembly polls are due in both the states in November 2028.
Chhattisgarh chief minister Vishnu Deo Sai hailed Ms. Irani and Mr. Sambhu for their new appointments, saying that their organizational experience will immensely help the party in the state.
