Hyderabad:Rajya Sabha member and National BC Welfare Association president R. Krishnaiah alleged that the Congress dispensation in the state was undermining education for students from the BC, SC and ST communities by withholding ₹8,000 crore in dues.
In a statement, Krishnaiah said the government had failed to clear areas for nearly 14 lakh college students over three years. This had led to colleges refusing to admit new students or issue certificates to those who have completed their courses.
Krishnaiah also condemned the reported move to close 23,000 government schools and merge or shut down gurukulas, calling it part of a larger conspiracy to deny education to weaker sections. The MP demanded an all-party meeting and consultations with intellectuals and BC organisations to resolve the issue.
Krishnaiah attacked GO No. 9, under which students can be jailed if fees are not paid to colleges within eight days, terming it “inhuman” and warning of a large-scale people’s movement if the government does not revert to the old method of reimbursing fees directly to institutions.
