BJP Slams Revanth for Renaming Road ‘Donald Trump Avenue’

Hyderabad: The state BJP accused the Congress of having a “slaver mentality”, ahead of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy renaming the road at the US consulate as “Donald Trump Avenue”. The party also accused the Congress of blatant hypocrisy over its criticism of the Centre. State BJP president N. Ramchander Rao said the Congress, which has been running a sustained narrative that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has “surrendered” to the US, was now itself rushing to glorify an American leader.

“While the BJP honours Indian civilisational icons and seeks to remove symbols of colonial and external domination, the Congress repeatedly turns to foreign names for glorification,” Rao wrote, framing the move as a cultural and ideological contrast between the parties.

In a post, Rao accused the Congress of preserving a “colonial mindset” and urged voters to note the difference in cultural priorities. “One party worships Indian civilization, the other constantly glorifies the foreign.” He also targeted Rahul Gandhi directly for remaining silent on the decision, calling it an exposure of the Congress’s contradictory stance and a political stunt that undermines the party’s moral authority to criticise the Centre on foreign policy.

Echoing the state president, BJP chief spokesperson N.V. Subhash, demanded that the Chief Minister explain who — in practice — is “prostrating” before US President Trump, the Prime Minister or the Telangana Congress leadership.

Subhash recalled past instances of Congress governments allegedly favouring foreign interests and argued the renaming amounts to another example of what he called the party’s deference to external figures. He contrasted that with BJP governments’ record — citing projects and nomenclature changes under Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Narendra Modi — which, he said, prioritise national heroes and India’s civilisational legacy.

Subhash accused the Congress of using historical naming and symbolism selectively, maintaining that while the BJP elevates indigenous icons, Congress preserves colonial era legacies and indulges in vote bank politics. He warned that growing public resentment against the Revanth Reddy administration’s “arrogant and disconnected governance” would reflect at the ballot box, and urged people to hold the state government accountable for political opportunism.
