Ahead of Monday’s preseason home opener against the Minnesota Wild, the Chicago Blackhawks announced a second round of training-camp roster cuts. None of them were surprising.
The Blackhawks loaned Gavin Hayes, Paul Ludwinski, Samuel Savoie, Ashton Cumby, Jake Furlong, Taige Harding, Stanislav Berezhnoy, and Adam Gajan to the AHL’s Rockford IceHogs. Additionally, Cavan Fitzgerald has been assigned to Rockford after being released from his PTO.

The Blackhawks made another minor transaction on Monday, placing minor-league defenseman Derrick Pouliot on waivers. If Pouliot clears waivers, he will be assigned to Rockford.

That brings the current training-camp roster down to 38 players, including 24 forwards, 11 defensemen, and three goaltenders.

According to IceHogs’ broadcaster Dana Grey, Rockford is expected to announce a full training-camp roster and schedule on Tuesday.
Harding, Furlong, Pouliot, Fitzgerald, and Cumby are expected to make up a vast chunk of the IceHogs’ blue line during the 2026-27 season. With all five players left-handed, it will be interesting to see how head coach Jared Nightingale goes about his defensive pairings.
Hayes, Ludwinski, and Savoie are returning IceHogs skaters, with all three playing strictly at the AHL level in 2025-26. Ludwinski, a 2023 second-round draft pick, missed most of the season with a lower-body injury.

As for the netminders, Berezhnoy and Gajan could be competing for backup minutes behind Drew Commesso this year. Another potential option is Gajan starting his pro career in the ECHL with the Indy Fuel. With five capable goaltenders in the pro ranks, a mini logjam has now been created.
