Kasaragod: The body of a man who allegedly jumped into a river after seeing a police team during an illegal sand extraction operation was traced in Arikady here on Thursday, police said.
The deceased was identified as Ibrahim (35) of Bambrana village in Arikady Kadavath.
On Monday night, Ibrahim and two others were allegedly extracting sand from the Kumbla River at Arikady when they spotted a police team approaching, police said.
The trio then jumped into the river, following which the two others managed to swim to the shore, while Ibrahim went missing, they said.
Despite search operations along the riverbank and estuary for two days, Ibrahim could not be traced.
His body was found in the morning near the spot where he had allegedly jumped into the river, police said.
The body was shifted to a nearby hospital for postmortem.
Kumbla police had already registered a missing person case in connection with the incident, officials said.
