A bodybuilder collapsed and died hours after sharing snaps of his workout ahead of his next major competition.
Mailson Araújo, 35, fell ill at home in Alagoinhas, Brazil, late Monday, days before this weekend’s Musclecontest – an event some athletes use as a stepping stone for the prestigious Mr Olympia event later in the year, Globo reported.
The muscleman couldn’t be saved after collapsing – despite the best efforts of his mom, who is a nurse, as well as first responders who rushed to the scene.
Araújo was pronounced dead but the cause has yet to be released.
Just hours before his death, he shared pictures of himself flexing and working out in the gym.
“In the process, enjoying every day,” he captioned the now-tragic snap of himself showing off his physique.
Araújo had only been a professional athlete for three years at the time of his shock death.
He earned his professional tour card in 2023 after claiming the Arnold Classic South America title in Sao Paulo.
Araújo enjoyed several top four finishes – notably finishing in third place at the 2023 Muscleman competition.
Araújo was due to star at the Musclecontest competition, which gets underway in Curitiba on Friday.
Professional bodybuilder Maiki Ono wrote online Araújo would be “greatly missed,” while Brazilian bodybuilder Lucas Moraes described the late athlete as a “giant.”
