The latest trend of Hindi superstars doing blink-and-miss cameos in South biggies has left fans fuming, with many questioning if these big names are being reduced to just sidekicks!
After Aamir Khan’s much-hyped appearance in Rajinikanth’s Coolie, Hrithik Roshan is the latest to join the bandwagon with Jailer 2. But instead of applause, the move has sparked a massive social media storm!
“They have just played sidekick roles, so it is natural for their fans to feel disappointed,” says a producer.
Fans are brutally trolling the trend, pointing out how Aamir was shown lighting Rajinikanth’s cigarette in Coolie, while Hrithik is seen kissing the superstar’s hands in Jailer 2. Bollywood’s biggest stars are being portrayed as the South hero’s right-hand men and devoted bhakts, which is totally unacceptable to their fan armies.
Social media is flooded with posts saying these cameos do no justice to the stature of Aamir, Hrithik, or even Salman Khan, whose appearance in Chiranjeevi’s GodFather was also called underwhelming. Fans argue their idols should only sign such roles if they get a powerful, parallel track, not just hero-worship moments.
Many have even advised the stars to ditch these cameos and focus on solid solo hits, especially at a time when Bollywood is desperate for blockbusters. Filmmakers too have been urged to drop the gimmick and instead plan proper two-hero shows.
However, writer Gopi Mohan has a different take. “Bollywood stars share a good rapport with Rajinikanth and have a lot of respect for him. I don’t think it is about the length of the role, but probably they want to share screen space with a legendary star who has completed 50 years in the industry. Of course, fans will have their own opinions, but Rajinikanth’s charisma overtakes everything,” he concludes.
