Bournemouth 2-0 Sunderland: Evanilson stars as Cherries cruise past 10-man Wearsiders

James Tavernier and Evanilson were on target as Bournemouth claimed their first Premier League win of the season this afternoon with the most routine of victories against sorry Sunderland.

The Wearsiders were the architects of their own downfall with blundering centre-halves Kevin Danso and Omar Alderete particularly culpable.

Danso’s afternoon lasted just 17 minutes before he was sent off after fluffing a routine back pass and then hauling down Evanilson as the Brazilian bore down on goal.

By that time, Bournemouth were already 1-0 up. A straight ball forward saw Evanilson shrug off feeble challenges from Danso and Alderete before crossing for Tavernier to head in to an empty net after six minutes.

Evanilson added a second in the second half after more abysmal defending.

Sunderland were largely awful despite winning at Torreense in the Europa League in midweek but this was even worse, Regis Le Bris’ side already looking in trouble at this early stage of the campaign.

If Tottenham beat Coventry on Monday Night Football, then the Black Cats will slip to the foot of the table.

Roefs prevents Bournemouth cricket score

Only goalkeeper Robin Roefs emerged with any credit from this horror show, the Dutchman producing several fine saves to keep the scoreline respectable.

His first prevented Rayan from doubling Bournemouth’s advantage with Adam Smith somehow putting the rebound over the bar from close range.

Match Statistics

Nordi Mukiele, who had earlier been clattered by Antonio Silva, was still limping when he made a brave block to deny Evanilson before Roefs denied Rayan again after the Brazilian winger rose unmarked at a corner to glance a header towards goal.

Rayan was enjoying his afternoon and another 25-yard effort stung the palms of Roefs while a one-sided first-half ended with Evanilson going round the Sunderland goalkeeper but then putting his left-footed shot over the bar.

The second-half was also one-way traffic with the onslaught starting early, Roefs advancing swiftly off his line to block Evanilson’s shot.

Roefs deserved better than to be beaten again due to the incompetence of the Sunderland defenders in front of him. This time it was Alderete’s turn with a dreadful back pass that enabled Evanilson to run clear, shimmy one way then the other and fire home.
