A half-marathon in northeastern China has gained attention for its unique prize offerings, including a cow for the champion, wild fish for the first and second runners-up, and chickens for other top finishers. This unconventional approach aims to boost registration and enthusiasm for the event.
Held in Nong’an county, Changchun, Jilin province, the race featured both a half-marathon and a 5-km health run. In addition to the cow prize, participants placing fourth to twentieth would receive either a goose or rooster, while those finishing beyond the thirtieth spot would take home 10 kg of rice or whole wheat flour.
The innovative prizes have sparked significant interest among potential participants, reflecting a growing trend in China where marathons and half-marathons are becoming increasingly popular, with 622 events held in the past year alone.
