Parthiv Patel has said that bowlers will continue to target young Indian batter Vaibhav Sooryavanshi with short-pitched deliveries, stressing that the key challenge will be how he adapts to the tactic.
Speaking on JioStar’s ‘Game Plan’, Patel analysed India’s poor performance in the third T20I against England cricket team in Nottingham, where the visitors were bowled out for just 76, allowing England to take a 2-0 lead in the five-match series.
“Only the toss went in India’s favour. After that, nothing worked. A total around 200 was chaseable, but the lack of planning, poor fielding, and the batting collapse were disappointing,” Patel said.
On Sooryavanshi, Patel noted that the short-ball strategy was expected. “Anyone who watched the IPL would not be surprised. Every bowler will look to test him with short deliveries above 145 kmph. The question is how he copes with it,” he added.
Looking ahead to the fourth T20I, Patel called for better game awareness from Indian batters, urging them to take time to settle despite the format’s fast pace. He also suggested changes to the playing XI, including bringing in Sanju Samson, Ishan Kishan, and Shreyas Iyer to add balance and variety.
India will aim to bounce back in the fourth T20I to keep the series alive.
