Brad Pitt has revealed how he coped with ‘darker days’ after his divorce from his former wife, Angelina Jolie, which he says was one of the most challenging times
Brad Pitt has revealed he endured his “darker days” after his divorce from Angelina Jolie. The actor, 62, said he had endured “suffering and losses” in the wake of their divorce.
In his new movie, Heart of the Beast, Brad appears as retired Special Forces officer James Belmont, who is joined by his retired service dog Odin when their aircraft crashes in the Alaskan wilderness.
Both James and Ordin survive the crash but have to face attempting to survive in the brutal wilderness conditions while praying to be rescued. For the project, Brad worked with survival experts, which he says allowed him to reflect on what he had endured.

“When I think of the darker days, it was certainly my close relationships that I relied heavily on,” Brad said. He added: “Friends, dear close friends, a handful of close family, and was very open about my struggle.”
According to The Sun, Brad went on to say: “And being able to be that free with people who love you and have your back, and that you love back, is everything. It’s everything. The survivalists would tell us it’s all about little wins. You’re going to suffer losses, you’re going to suffer pain, but it’s just getting to the next little win.
“I thought that equated to life in that way, in the sense of when we are struggling and going through many challenges, just getting to that next little win, not thinking about the big picture, just that next little win.”
Brad and Angelina started dating in 2004 and instantly became one of Hollywood’s biggest couples, before tying the knot a decade later. The former couple split in 2016 after just two years of marriage.
However, their divorce was finalised in 2024, after an eight-year-long battle. Four of their six children, Maddox, 25, Zahara, 21, Shiloh, 20, and Vivienne, have all taken legal steps to change their surnames from Pitt to Jolie.
Meanwhile, Knox and Pax, both 22, have not filed a formal legal name-change petition. Vivienne was the latest of his children to decide to cut his name from her life. Just weeks ago, Brad suffered further humiliation when Vivienne placed a newspaper notice, publicly stating that she no longer wished to have Pitt in her surname.
She filed to change her name to Vivenne Marcheline Jolie. Sharing the notice in a public newspaper is standard practise when changing a name, to ensure the courts approve the deed.
The notice was published in The Los Angeles Journal once a week for four weeks between July and August. Should anybody oppose the name change, they must write to the court before November 2, when a final hearing will be held. Should there be no objections, the judge will ultimately approve the name change. In the filings, Vivienne cited her reasons to change her name as “personal”.
Should there be no objections, the judge will ultimately approve the name change. In the filings, Vivienne cited her reasons to change her name as “personal”. In the past, she has used the name Vivienne Jolie, including on the bill for her 2024 Broadway production of The Outsiders.
Her brother, Knox, also used the name Jolie on his diploma from Fusion Academy. Zahara and Maddox also took out notices in the Los Angeles Journal to change their names. During her university commencement in May, Zahara was referred to as Zahara Marley Jolie. Shiloh petitioned to change her name in 2024 after turning 18.
At the time, her legal representative, Peter Levine, said that she had “made an independent and significant decision following painful events.” Pax hasn’t changed his name, although his relationship with Brad is strained, previously branding his father a “world-class a**hole.”
