Visakhapatnam: Union textiles minister Giriraj Singh on Saturday described Brandix as a model for women empowerment during a visit to the company’s facility at Atchutapuram SEZ in Anakapalli district.
The minister said Andhra Pradesh had significant potential in the textile sector and noted that the establishment of more industries on the lines of Brandix could generate large-scale employment and contribute to the state’s industrial growth.
During the visit, Brandix India director Pachipala Doraswamy briefed the minister on the company’s manufacturing operations and export activities. Giriraj Singh toured the facility, interacted with employees and reviewed the welfare measures being provided to workers.
Addressing a meeting later, the minister said the textile sector was the country’s second-largest employer after agriculture. He noted that investments in the garment industry had substantial employment potential and said large manufacturing units were creating job opportunities for women and youth from rural areas.
Giriraj Singh said local residents had informed him that women’s economic participation in the region had increased after the establishment of the Brandix facility. He added that economic empowerment of women contributed to the overall development of families.
The minister also highlighted the growing importance of technical textiles, describing the segment as a key area for future industrial expansion. He said technical textiles were finding increasing applications in sectors such as aerospace, drones, defence, healthcare and agriculture.
Referring to recent discussions with Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, Giriraj Singh said efforts were being made to promote the technical textiles sector in Andhra Pradesh. He expressed confidence that the state was well placed to emerge as a major hub for the industry.
The minister said the establishment of more textile and technical textile units could strengthen the state’s industrial ecosystem and create additional employment opportunities.
