The Los Angeles Kings have struggled early in the 2026-27 NHL season. They began the year winless, and did pick up some big wins after breaking that first losing streak. On Wednesday, they did pull out a big win over the San Jose Sharks as well. However, they are near the bottom of the Pacific Division at this time.

One major bright spot for this team has been defenseman Brandt Clarke. Clarke was drafted seventh overall by the Kings in the 2021 NHL Draft. He has had his ups and downs, but he has become a regular contributor. Now, he is second on the team in points, and is one of the team’s most trusted defensemen.
On Wednesday, he credited the leaders he’s played with for putting him in good positions.

“I’ve been very fortunate with the spots I’ve been put in, and the leadership that’s been on my team. So, it’s really cool, and I feel confident in myself now. I feel like I’ve trusted the process well. I’ve been just doing what I need to do, and I’m happy to be a key contributor now, and it feels good, for sure,” the Kings defenseman said, via NHL.com.

Clarke entered Wednesday’s game against the Sharks with three goals and 10 points in 13 games. Against San Jose, he added an assist in the 7-2 win over the Sharks away from home.
