Next Wednesday is the one-year anniversary of the day the Jets traded defensive stars Sauce Gardner and Quinnen Williams. The moves, particularly trading Gardner, were shocking and reset the organizational rebuild.
One year later, those trades look like good moves. The Colts began a fire sale this week, trading off star players Quenton Nelson and DeForest Buckner, and the first-round pick the Jets acquired in the Gardner trade could end up being in the top 5. The Cowboys are struggling and that looks like it might be a top 10 or top 15 pick.
Last year’s deadline looks like one of the biggest wins in general manager Darren Mougey’s time on the job. So, what does he do for an encore?
The trade deadline is in two weeks on Nov. 10 at 4 p.m. At 2-5, the Jets look like sellers. That is unlikely to change even with a win over the Raiders on Sunday. I’m not sure they will be major sellers, though. Aaron Glenn needs to win games to save his job and the Jets need to compete in 2027 with the addition of three first-round picks, including an expected quarterback.
