England’s World Cup last-16 match with Mexico has been delayed by an hour.

Originally scheduled to kick off at 01:00 BST (18:00 local time), FIFA has confirmed severe weather disruptions mean the game will have to wait at least another hour.

Any flashes of thunder or lightning within an hour of the confirmed time of kick off will stretch the delay even longer.

A statement said: “Due to adverse weather conditions in Mexico City, including risk caused by lightning in the vicinity of the stadium, the kick-off of the World Cup 2026 round of 16 match between Mexico and England has been delayed to 19.00 local time (21:00 EDT).

“The safety and security of all individuals is Fifa’s priority. We thank all fans for their understanding and cooperation.”

England fans watching from home will now have a decision to make on whether they go to bed, or stick it out with the match now set to take place through the night.
