The brother of Henry Nowak’s killer lied to cops that he and his sibling were “attacked racially by some white person,” according to a newly released call in the bombshell murder case that’s been rocking the UK.
In the call, released by police on Tuesday, Gurpreet Digwa, 27, falsely claims that he and his brother, killer Vickrum Digwa, 23, had been racially assaulted by Nowak in December near their home in Southampton in southern England.
“We were just attacked racially by some white person. He’s attacked my brother and taken my brother’s turban off,” Gurpreet says in the 11-minute phone call with emergency services.
“Literally, I just parked my car to come home, and he attacked my brother,” Gurpreet says later in the call.
“He physically attacked my brother, we’re Sikhs, we wear a turban, and he’s attacked my brother.”
Gurpreet lied that Nowak had called them a “Paki,” a racial slur for South Asians in the UK, and said his brother had had his “hair pulled and stuff,” when asked if he had any injuries.
Vickrum, who had already stabbed college student Nowak, 18, five times with an eight-inch ceremonial Sikh dagger, can be heard in the background accusing his victim of being drunk and “stumbling” into him.
In fact, Nowak was not a regular drinker, and his blood alcohol level was below the UK’s legal driving limit at the time of the attack, the jury at Vickrum’s murder trial heard.
In the UK, a person can legally carry a kirpan — or ceremonial knife — for religious reasons.
When police arrived, they believed the brothers’ lies and put Nowak in handcuffs, despite the teen’s repeated pleas to them that he had been stabbed and couldn’t breathe.
“You’ve been stabbed, whereabouts?” an officer says in bodycam footage released on Tuesday, before adding, “Don’t think you have, mate.”
Nowak, who was in his first year at the University of Southampton, following the attack on the night of Dec. 3, 2025, as he made his way home.

On Tuesday, 11 officers and a police dog were injured after hundreds joined a protest in Southampton, with chairs, trash cans, flares and rocks thrown in the melee.
Nigel Farage, leader of the right-wing Reform UK party, called for an end to “anti-white prejudice” and evoked the death of George Floyd in 2020.
“I can’t breathe. Familiar words. Remember career criminal George Floyd, who died in appalling circumstances in Midwest America,” said Farage on social media, while comparing the response of current British Prime Minister Keir Starmer in 2020 to his recent actions following Nowak’s murder.
“[In 2020] Keir Starmer was taking the knee. Black Lives Matter exploded all over the country. Churchill’s statue was defaced,” Farage said.
Following Nowak’s death, there has been “absolute silence, proof … we’re living in a two-tier culture in this country where the rights and privileges of white people matter less than those of ethnic minorities,” he added.
On Monday, Vickrum was convicted of murder and sentenced to life in prison with a minimum term of 21 years.
He and Gurpreet, as well as their father, Moga Singh, 52, appeared in court again on Tuesday on charges of possession of offensive weapons, including a flick knife, a machete, swords, knuckledusters and an extendable baton.
Their mother, 53-year-old Kiran Kaur, tried to hide the weapon at the family home.
She will be sentenced on July 17 for assisting an offender.
