Fans were ready to throw Deshaun Watson and Todd Monken to the proverbial wolves, the media was chalking up the Browns to lose every game, and one former head coach of their biggest rival didn’t mince words.
While speaking on NBC’s Football Night in America, former Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin made a rather harsh statement while recapping the game. He simply stated, “Browns are gonna Brown.” It turns out that soundbite was on the mind of Browns head coach Todd Monken, and he shared what he finally thought after his team’s first win of the season.

The win was not only the Browns’ first of 2026, but also Monken’s first as an NFL head coach.
There is a lot to criticize about Monken, especially after their Week 2 win. There will be time to digest that, but for all his flaws, Monken is nothing but himself and authentic, and for a profession that so rarely sees it anymore, it is refreshing.
Now, to keep that refreshing approach, Monken will need to string some wins together or else that too may grow old just as much as the normal approach to the profession.
