Hyderabad: Bharat Raj, the son of a former IAS officer-turned-BRC MLC P. Venkatram Reddy, and two others were served notices by Mangalhat police after they allegedly tested positive for ganja in both urine and blood tests during an investigation into a drug consumption case.

Police said the trio have been directed to undergo de-addiction and rehabilitation, while efforts are on to trace four other members of the seven-member group identified during the probe.

According to police, the investigation began with the questioning of Abhishek, a software professional residing under the Mangalhat police station limits, who allegedly procured ganja and hash oil from Himachal Pradesh. Investigators said Abhishek travelled to Himachal Pradesh once every two to three months to procure the narcotic substances before returning to Hyderabad.

Police alleged that Abhishek would invite his close friends to his residence, where the group consumed the drugs. During the investigation, officers identified a group of seven friends who were allegedly regular consumers. Bharat was introduced to Abhishek through mutual friends.

While analysing Abhishek’s mobile phone, investigators found the mobile number of Bharat Raj among his frequently contacted numbers. This led police to summon Bharat Raj and another friend, Yuvaneeth, by serving them notices.

A source said all three people — Abhishek, Bharat Raj and Yuvaneeth — underwent urine screening, which tested positive for narcotic consumption. They were later subjected to medical examination, during which blood samples were collected. The blood test results also confirmed the presence of ganja in their systems.

According to sources, the three accused were treated as consumers and were asked to undergo de-addiction and rehabilitation in accordance with the provisions of the NDPS Act. Investigators are continuing efforts to locate the remaining four members of the group and ascertain their involvement.

The investigation is also focused on tracing the supply chain through which ganja and hash oil were allegedly brought from Himachal Pradesh to Hyderabad. Further investigation is underway.
