Hyderabad: BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao on Thursday said the party remained committed to protecting Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL), and the rights of its workers, declaring that the “BRS will safeguard Singareni from privatisation and corruption.”

Rama Rao was addressing a meeting of party MLAs, former MLAs, key leaders from the Singareni region, and representatives of the Telangana Coal Mine Workers’ Union.

The meeting followed BRS’ recent ‘Singareni Karmika Garjana’ rally in Godavarikhani.

Rama Rao urged the BRS leaders to hold the Congress government accountable on its financial affairs, decline in coal production, and allegations of malpractice in tenders.

A collective struggle may be required to protect Singareni and its workers.

There is a need to hold both the Congress government in the state, and the BJP government at the Centre, accountable on their stands on Singareni, Rama Rao said.

He said BRS leaders should extensively communicate with Singareni workers the welfare initiatives implemented by the BRS government, including distribution of a share in profits, provision of dependent employment, medical facilities, and overall welfare of workers’ families.

The meeting also discussed preparing the party, as well as the leaders and activists of the TBGKS for the upcoming Singareni trade union elections.
