Bruce Springsteen made a powerful on stage statement about Donald Trump, following the assassination attempt at the weekend and their ongoing feud.
Bruce Springsteen made a powerful statement last night while on stage, referencing the assassination attempt made on Donald Trump’s life over the weekend.
On Saturday night, shots were fired outside the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, which saw Trump, Melania Trump, and other senior members of the administration bundled to safety by Secret Service agents as guests took cover under tables in the ballroom of the Washington Hilton.
Addressing this incident, while on stage on Sunday April 26, as part of his Land Of Hope And Dreams tour, Springsteen said that despite his differences with the US President, he would never wish harm on him and offered a prayer.
“We begin tonight with a prayer for our men and women in service overseas, we pray for their safe return. We also send out a prayer of thanks that our president, nor anyone in the administration, nor anyone attending, was injured at last night’s incident at the [White House] press correspondents’ dinner,” he began.
“We can disagree. We can be critical of those in power, and we can peacefully fight for our beliefs, but there is no place in any way, shape, or form for political violence of any kind in our beloved United States,” the 76-year-old said:
This comes after years of Springsteen being a vocal critic of Trump. In September of 2016, two months before Trump was elected, Springsteen called him a “moron” during an interview with Rolling Stone.
“Well, you know, the republic is under siege by a moron, basically. The whole thing is tragic. Without overstating it, it’s a tragedy for our democracy. When you start talking about elections being rigged, you‘re pushing people beyond democratic governance. And it‘s a very, very dangerous thing to do.
“Once you let those genies out of the bottle, they don‘t go back in so easy, if they go back in at all. The ideas he’s moving to the mainstream are all very dangerous ideas – white nationalism and the alt-right movement,” he said.
Springsteen has also used his own stage to call Trump out. In 2025, he said: “There’s some very weird, strange, and dangerous s**t going on out there right now. In America, they are persecuting people for using their right to free speech and voicing their dissent. This is happening now.”
In 2024, the singer endorsed Kamala Harris’ at the Presidential election, even performing at one of her rallies, he has also previously called for the President to be impeached. Trump has called Springsteen “mentally ill” and more compared him to a “prune”.
“Bad, and very boring singer, Bruce Springsteen, who looks like a dried up prune who has suffered greatly from the work of a really bad plastic surgeon, has long had a horrible and incurable case of Trump Derangement Syndrome,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “The guy is a total loser who spews hate against a President who won a Landslide Election,” he added. “MAGA SHOULD BOYCOTT HIS OVERPRICED CONCERTS, WHICH SUCK. SAVE YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY.”
