Hyderabad:The Cabinet on Thursday approved the launch of two major welfare schemes — Indiramma Family Life Insurance providing Rs 5-lakh free insurance cover to every family in the state and distribution of Indiramma saris to over one crore women — on November 19, birth anniversary of the late Indira Gandhi. Both schemes will be launched from Siddipet.

Briefing media persons after the Cabinet meeting, information and public relations minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy said the government would also organise the ‘Maa Indiramma Intlo Deepavali’ programme during Diwali. Ministers and MLAs would celebrate the festival with beneficiaries of Indiramma houses in their constituencies. Construction of 2.25 lakh Indiramma houses had already been completed and the programme would be held in all completed houses.

Srinivas Reddy said the Indiramma Family Life Insurance scheme would provide Rs 5-lakh life insurance cover to every family in Telangana. From November 20 to 30, Indiramma Committees would visit every household in every village to collect applications. Tahsildars and gram panchayat secretaries would receive the applications, he said.

The Cabinet also decided to abolish the existing combined Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Commission and establish separate commissions for SCs and STs. It approved repeal of the Telangana State Commission for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Act, 2003. Each new commission will have a chairman and five members, aimed at expediting the resolution of grievances received from SC and ST communities.

The Cabinet approved issuance of an ordinance to amend the Telangana Fire Service Act, with emphasis on fire prevention, identifying causes of fires and ensuring faster response to emergencies. The amendments will specify precautions to be taken by owners of houses, apartments and shopping complexes, besides responsibilities of the Fire Services department.

It also approved a proposal to amend Section 12(A) of the Telangana Survey and Boundaries Act, 1923, reducing the time limit for filing appeals against notices issued in connection with surveys and boundaries from 60 days to 30 days.

The Cabinet sanctioned 56 posts for the newly-established junior civil judge-cum-additional judicial first class magistrate courts at Kataram in Jayashankar Bhupalpally district and Elkathurthi in Hanamkonda district. It also approved 80 additional posts in various categories for four additional junior civil judge-cum-additional judicial first class magistrate courts at Siddipet, Choutuppal in Yadadri-Bhuvanagiri district, Mahabubabad and Vemulawada in Rajanna-Sircilla district. The total number of posts sanctioned was 136.
