The New York Giants already face a fight to save their season after Jaxson Dart went down with an injury vs the Rams, but Cam Skattebo struck a different chord.
The New York Giants‘ winning start to the season ended in just the second game, as they fell to the LA Rams 28-6, but that wasn’t the biggest story of the game.

Giants’ starting QB Jaxson Dart came off with an issue with his knee, leading to Jameis Winston suiting up, but he went on to have a poor game.
Giants’ running back Cam Skattebo said after the game that Dart’s injury is a blow to the team, but it will be a different story in a week’s time.

There is no doubt that Winston is a downgrade from Dart, who has been the architect of most of the Giants’ wins since he arrived in New York.
Having said that, his experience and locker-room personality still count for a lot, and once he gets synergy with his teammates, the quality should show.

That is what Skattebo is relying on as well, with Dart’s injury ruling him out for at least 2-4 weeks. Despite Winston’s poor game against the Rams, Skattebo said it’s nothing that some time in training won’t fix.
He said: “I don’t think you let it [Dart’s injury] derail at all. You know the next man’s up. We put our full trust in Jameis, and he’s got a situation where he’s been in this league for a long time. He knows what he’s doing, and you know, when we get a whole week to prepare with him and get comfortable with him … I think it’s going to be a different story.”
Winston’s playing style is different from Dart’s, which poses a tactical question for the Giants’ offence. While Dart is extremely athletic and puts pressure on defences, Winston is more of a pure pocket passer at this stage of his career.
That will require some adjustments to the roles of all of his teammates, which is what Skattebo is alluding to here. If the Giants manage to stay afloat, ideally sneak a win in Dart’s absence, something they haven’t done so far, then it will boost their prospects immensely.

Skattebo is confident that one week can change everything for them. Winston is the next man up.
