In this week’s Swampcast, the Sun’s Kevin Brockway and Andrew Abadie break down Florida football hosting Oklahoma on Saturday, November 7 at The Swamp (7:45 p.m., SEC Network) with Colton Sulley of the Oklahoman.
The Florida Gators (5-3, 3-3 SEC) are looking to finish off the season on the right note after a 27-8 loss to Georgia on October 31 in Atlanta.

Oklahoma (4-4, 2-3 SEC) is coming into the matchup limping as well, off a 42-25 loss to South Carolina that resulted in the Sooners changing offensive coordinators from Ben Arbuckle to Jason Witten. Brockway pointed out when struggling Arkansas changed offensive coordinators three years ago before a November game against the Gators at The Swamp, the Razorbacks rallied to pull off a 39-36 overtime win.
“Florida has to clean up its own issues first,” Brockway said. “Namely penalties, namely offensive line issues, picking up blitzes.”
Abadie said an improving Florida defense could help carry the Gators to a win on a night when it will induct former coach into the ring of honor. UF’s defense has surrendered just four TDs over its last two games.
“If Florida’s defense played the way it did against Georgia, they are going to beat Oklahoma,” Abadie said. “That’s also considering Florida has a very inconsistent offense as well, but I like Florida’s chances in this game.”

Later in the podcast, Sulley addressed the Oklahoma OC change and said it’s hard to know what to expect from Witten or what it means for quarterback John Mateer, who has struggled this season. Mateer has thrown 7 TDs to 4 interceptions in SEC play this season.
“I would still predict that John is your starter on Saturday, but maybe he’s on a shorter leash,” Sulley said. “We have yet to see Whitt Newbauer or Bowe Bentley so we don’t know what’s behind him but it’s obviously been a disappointing season for John.”
