A shop made famous when a grandmother got caught on its shutter and was left dangling in the air has hit the headlines again after a car crashed through the front of it.
The Best-One shop in Tonteg, Rhondda Cynon Taf, caught the dramatic moment on CCTV when a Jaguar smashed through its doors after mounting bollards and crashing into the shop’s coffee machine.
In March 2024, the shop went viral after staff member Anne Hughes got caught on the shutter while waiting for the shop to open to start her shift.
Anne, who died in 2025, was left dangling 7ft (2.1 metres) in the air and shouting for the owner to help her, with CCTV footage of the incident viewed tens of millions of times.
People working in the shop could not believe the latest incident on Friday and were left “scared” when the car ploughed into the shop’s entrance.
Donna Davies, who has worked in the shop for several years, said: “The car just came straight through, it was a loud noise and we didn’t know what was happening but thought it could have been ram-raiders. It was scary.”
She said she ran out and saw an elderly driver and passenger, who are both regulars to the shop, in the car.
“The driver said his foot slipped when he went to get out the car and the car came straight in,” Donna said.

Anne’s viral moment was previously immortalised by local graffiti artist Tee2Sugars on the shutter she was caught on.
He has now updated the shutter to include the car smashing through the front of the shop.
Donna said she had worked with Anne before her death.
“Anne would be laughing at this, I think she’d like the updated shutter,” she said.
“People are coming in the shop this morning and finding it amusing. It wasn’t at the time, but looking back we can smile.”

The shop front was badly damaged in the crash but the owner and family worked late on Friday and Saturday to fix the front and keep the shop open for customers.
Hakim Akram, who is the nephew of the shop owner and works in the store, said: “It was a bit of a shock, he just came flying through – I didn’t even know what happened until I saw the car.
“It was surreal and very loud. People thought it was a prank and AI when they first saw it on social media.”
One customer, Shaun, said he could not believe it.
He said: “It’s just crazy after the incident with the lady on the shutter and now this.”

The family of Anne Hughes told BBC Wales they were very glad no-one was seriously hurt. Her son Ceri joked: “We can’t believe the shop’s luck, we are starting to wonder if all of this is an inside job.
“Tonteg Best-One – the only shop in the UK where you can be lifted 7ft in the air on Monday and driven through on a Friday.”
They said they were pleased the artwork of Anne was not damaged.
Her grandchildren Lilly and Alex said their nan would be happy with the new addition on the shutter and joked: “Nan always preferred a Bentley but would settle with a Jag next to her on the shutter.”
