
Tirunelveli: The use of caste-based flags, banners, symbols and other communal identifiers has been prohibited during the Aani car festival of the Nellaiappar Temple in Tirunelveli, with city police commissioner T. Deshmukh Shekar Sanjay warning that strict action would be taken against anyone violating the order.
The commissioner said the restrictions had been imposed to ensure the smooth, peaceful and harmonious conduct of the annual temple festival, which attracts thousands of devotees from across the state. He directed police personnel to maintain heightened vigil and take prompt action to prevent any activity that could disturb public order or communal harmony.
The Aani car festival is one of the most prominent religious events in the region. The chariot procession, scheduled to be held on June 28, is expected to witness a large gathering of devotees.
