Chennai: Chennai City Police’s Central Crime Branch searched four locations in Kallakurichi district linked to relatives of an absconding accused, Muthukumar, in connection with a private school-approval fraud case. The searches, conducted on September 26, targeted the residences of Muthukumar’s relatives Saravanan and Ramesh in T Kunnathur, as well as the house and shop of one Gokulakrishnan in Kallakurichi. Officials seized 30 documents, including bank-related records, during the operation.
According to a press release, Muthukumar ran a firm called Global 360 Degree in T Nagar, Chennai, and allegedly collected money from private school managements on the false promise of securing government approvals from the Tamil Nadu School Education Department. The investigation found that his relative Saravanan was an accomplice in these financial transactions.
The CCB registered the case following a complaint lodged with the Chennai City Police Commissioner. Three accused – B T Arasakumar, Suresh and Raja – have already been arrested in the case.
As part of the ongoing probe, proceedings under the Prevention of Corruption Act have also been initiated against former School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi, based on evidence gathered so far.
On September 16, the CCB had searched nine locations linked to the former minister and his aides across Chennai and Tiruchirappalli, seizing property documents, bank details, cheques and electronic devices. Further investigation is underway.
