However, fans hoping James is single may be sorely disappointed – as he has revealed he has a secret girlfriend.

Speaking to the The New Cue newsletter, he gave fans an insight to his day – and dropped the bombshell that he was currently in a relationship.

Revealing all about their cosy downtime together, he shared: “The cats wake us up around 6.30am. Feed them, do all the cat stuff. Go to this place nearby to get breakfast, get myself some bircher muesli, filter coffee, bring it back, eat breakfast with my girlfriend.

“Think about doing exercise, spend the whole day putting off the exercise, do it at 5pm, do yoga, go to the gym, get back, feed the cats again and then try and find something to watch, usually a film. In the day, it’s a lot of listening to music, having a nap at some point, going for a walk.”

Off Menu host James previously dated actress and writer Louise Ford, who he split up with in 2013 after two years together. She starred in the likes of The Windsors and Horrible Histories amongst others.

Louise went on to date Rowan Atkinson, best known for playing Mr Bean, who she met in 2013 when they took part in play Quartermaine’s Terms together. He later made light of his plight, using the split for part of his own comedy routine.

“I found out a year after we split up. I opened the newspaper and there was a full-page story. No one else in the history of time has ever been left for Mr Bean. I’m a goddamn saint to have kept this in the back pocket so long,” he said.

“It’s my job to say things that are funny and the funniest thing that’s ever happened to anyone, happened to me and I put it on the back burner out of respect. Until you get left for Mr Bean, you don’t realise how frequently he pops up. There’s a shop two streets from my house that sells masks of his face. There’s nowhere where I’m going to go that he’s not there.”

He later went on to date Rose Matafeo, a comedian who created and starred in BBC show Starstruck. Rose moved to the UK a year after she started dating James, relocating from her home in New Zealand.

The pair went their separate ways in 2017 and in his comedy material, he is believed to be referencing Rose when he talks about “Becky with the good hair”. She rarely speaks on the split but had previously quipped: “Don’t date comedians.”
