Mumbai: The Maharashtra State CET Cell has filed a police complaint after a circulating audio clip allegedly revealed a woman offering a “special” engineering entrance examination centre for Rs 12 lakh. In the recording, the woman purportedly assures a parent that the arrangement would guarantee an exceptionally high percentile and admission to a top government-aided engineering college.
CET Cell Commissioner and CEO Dilip Sardesai confirmed that the authorities had taken cognisance of the unverified audio clip and initiated legal action. Officials said the Azad Maidan Police Station has summoned CET Cell officials to record their statements. “The case is expected to be transferred to the Crime Branch,” an official said.
The complaint also refers to two videos related to Maharashtra CET examinations that have been widely circulated on social media. The videos contain allegations and claims questioning the transparency and credibility of examinations conducted by the CET Cell.
“If the information contained in the videos is not based on facts or is misleading, it could create confusion, fear and mistrust among students, parents, educational institutions and the general public. It could also undermine citizens’ confidence in the public examination system,” the CET Cell said in a statement.
The CET Cell said the authenticity of the videos needs to be verified in view of their widespread circulation. “The CET Cell has requested a detailed inquiry into the content of the videos and verification of the claims made in them. It has also sought identification of the persons who created, uploaded and circulated the videos,” a CET Cell official said.
In its complaint, the CET Cell urged the police to conduct a thorough investigation and take appropriate legal action to safeguard the credibility of the public examination system and prevent unnecessary confusion among students and parents.
Meanwhile, a delegation of the NCP (SP), led by MLA Rohit Pawar, met Sardesai on Tuesday and submitted a memorandum seeking an impartial, transparent and comprehensive probe into alleged irregularities in the MHT-CET examination.
“If the alleged irregularities are not investigated impartially within a stipulated time and meritorious students do not get justice, the NCP (SP) will take to the streets for the students’ rights,” Maharashtra NCP (SP) spokesperson Adv. Amol Matele said.
