On Tuesday night, the College Football Playoff Bowl Selection Committee released its first Top 25 rankings. Six Big Ten teams made the top 25 — Indiana at No. 4, UCLA at No. 8, Ohio State at No. 12, Iowa at No. 19, USC at No. 20, and Oregon at No. 23.
12 teams will ultimately make the College Football Playoff, and if the season ended today, there would be two Big Ten teams making the cut — Indiana and UCLA. UCLA would have a first-round home game against No. 9 BYU, while Indiana would have a bye week and face either No. 12 Boise State or No. 5 Alabama in the CFP Quarterfinals.

The only Big Ten team that’s undefeated in the CFP Top 25 is UCLA at 8-0 — Indiana has one loss; two-loss teams include Ohio State, USC, and Iowa, while Oregon has three losses.
Among the Big Ten teams with the highest betting odds to win the national championship, Indiana has the best chance at +1000, per FanDuel Sportsbook. Next is Ohio State at +1300, followed by UCLA at +4500. Other Big Ten teams in the top 25 face even stiffer odds of winning it all, with USC at +6500, Iowa at +15000, and Oregon at +20000.
Per ESPN’s College Football Power Index, three Big Ten teams have over a 45% chance of making the playoffs. ESPN’s FPI gives Indiana an 84.3% chance of making the playoffs, while Ohio State is at 73.7% and UCLA has a 47.4% chance.
It’ll be interesting to see how many Big Ten teams make the playoffs ultimately, with one or two teams receiving a berth being the most likely scenarios. The Big Ten Championship winner will surely be one of the teams in the conference making the CFP, and right now FanDuel Sportsbook gives Indiana the highest odds of winning the conference at +115, followed by Ohio State at +240 and UCLA at +440.
