Raipur: A Fast-Track Court (FTC) in Chhattisgarh’s Surajpur district on Thursday sentenced three people to death and another to life imprisonment for the brutal murder of the wife and minor daughter of a policeman two years ago.
District and Additional Sessions Judge (FTC) Anand Prakash Wariyal handed down death sentence to Kuldeep Sahu (32), Chandrakant Chaudhary (28) and Phul Singh alias Rinku (28), while sentencing another person Aryan Viswakarma (28) to life imprisonment after convicting them in the double-murder, according to the government counsel Suresh Sharma.
The case relates to rape and murder of 35-year-old wife and killing of 11-year-old daughter of a police head constable by the history-sheeter Sahu and three of his associates at Surajpur on October 13, 2024.
There were 33 injury marks on the woman’s body and 28 on the minor girl’s body, the counsel told the court.
“The gravity of the offence was very serious and it was committed without any provocation”, he told the court and pleaded that the punishment should be proportionate to the gravity of the offence.
Sahu was seen smiling and remorseless while coming out of the court after the pronouncement of the quantum of punishment by the judge, while asking the media persons present there to take his smiling photo.
According to the case diary, on October 13, 2024, Sahu threw hot oil at police head constable Ghanashyam Soni when he tried to arrest him for violating the order to externe him from Surajpur town.
Sahul later fled the spot.
A police team led by Soni later launched a manhunt for him in the town and subsequently confronted him at a place.
Sahu however tried to run over them with his car.
Later, Sahu and three of his associates who included a local National Students Union of India (NSUI), the student wing of Congress, barged into the house of the policeman and committed the double murder.
