Released on Friday, May 22, Chand Mera Dil is a romantic drama starring Ananya Panday and Lakshya in lead roles and has already started its box office journey with mixed responses. While many praise the fresh chemistry between the leads, the numbers on day one are more on the quieter side than the blockbuster kind.

According to trade website Sacnilk, Chand Mera Dil collected around Rs 2.90 crore nett in India on its first day. This came from nearly 4,944 shows across the country. For a Dharma Productions film, the start is fairly modest.

Still, it has managed to do better than Ek Din, starring Junaid Khan and Sai Pallavi. That film opened at Rs 1.15 crore nett and has so far collected around Rs 4 crore nett in total. So, on a basic comparison, Chand Mera Dil is ahead.

Trade experts feel the real test will come over the weekend. Romantic films usually depend a lot on word-of-mouth, so if audiences connect, the numbers could improve. If not, the slow start may continue.

Directed by Vivek Soni, the film narrates the story of two engineering students, Aarav (Lakshya) and Chandni (Ananya Panday), who fall in love with each other in college and face the challenges of early marriage and parenting.

Our reviewer stated, “
All said and done, Chand Mera Dil, is not a perfect film. But then, even Rumi and Pablo Neruda will agree that perfection is not really a virtue relevant to love. Because love is a weird little feeling, that can make people do so many things that don’t always make sense. And yet, watching Chand Mera Dil, feels like an instant hark back to every good, bad and ugly thing you may have done in love. Most of it might not have made sense, but the feeling of having loved, lived and survived to tell the tale is all that matters.”
